Zak and Jack Showdown at Monster Town Review

Defend Monster Town against the evil alien invading monsters! Zak and Jack are the only ones to man the front line defense against these mad, bad marauders who are jealous of the pair’s success. The 2 are happy monster inventors living in Monster Town when they get wind of an impending malicious attack. Everyone is a monster in this shooter, action Mac game, but there are good guys and bad guys. Of course, you are on Zak and Jack’s side in fighting the wicked, heinous monsters.

Zak and Jack are on their latest shooting machine. You move them up and down while clicking to shoot at the enemies. You must aim directly and precisely to get a high percentage of accuracy score in order to beat the evil monsters and the level. There are lots of villainous monsters and bosses in addition to the loads of power-ups, but avoid the red ones, they are no good.

Zak and Jack is a fast action, arcade shooter game that will get your blood moving. Get your hand and eye coordination working at top speed because you’ll need it when myriads of monsters come at you and not in a straight line. They will zig and zag, retreat and push forward at various speeds. The boss levels are intense but crazy fun and exciting. If you love arcade shooter, action games, this is one of the better ones. Have a blast with Zak and Jack defending their turf, Monster Town.

Luxor 2

Luxor 2 is very similar to the first Luxor with its ancient Egypt theme and shoot at orbs to stop the snaking balls from falling to the enigmatic darkness of the pyramid, but why change a good thing, right? Luxor 2 has the same intense color and music to heighten the level of your play.

There are 3 exciting modes of play. Adventure levels can be played in Easy, Normal or Expert difficulties. In addition you can trek through the dusty, arid desert of the Sahara. Survival mode is an endless onslaught of snaking orbs, and Practice is any map unlocked by Adventure.

In each game you are to shoot the orb into the meandering rows of spheres of 2 or more like color balls before they quickly disappear into the gaping entrance of the pyramid. When the balls collide they may release power-ups and ankh coins. The different reactions of the power-ups are reversing the spheres, slowing, temporarily stopping, increasing shooting speed. There are lightning that destroys everything in its path, and daggers that demolish spheres they strike.

Luxor 2 has a lot of action and lots of excitement in its play. It’s not that much different from Luxor, but I still like it none the less. Have a good time with this arcade Mac game and shoot your way to a good time.

Ultratron is a retro looking arcade shooter that takes an old genre and creates another fun filled game. This time, the enemies are robots (more than 70 to destroy!) and you are a robot as well (I think) trying to save yourself and set a high score. In this fast-paced action, it is easy to get caught up in the quick shoot-em up style that Ultratron employs.

One thing that I didn’t particularly care for was the controls. To move the character around screen, you use A,S,D, and W. To shoot and aim, you use the mouse. I prefer the movement to be with the arrows, but it’s more of a preference I suppose. In any event the controls are a little clunky, but do not detract from the game significantly.

I liked the power-ups and different types of enemies the game has. It creates an interesting element when you try to destroy new and foreign robots that you have never seen before. There are also special stages, like the attack stage where you are in a box of enemies and must shoot your way out. There are also four giant boss robots, which are challenging but intense! With over 40 levels of action, this game is a solid arcade-for-your-computer shooter and I would give it 3 stars out of five.
